Hi Charlie! Thank you for the opportunity to appear on your blog to share an exclusive excerpt of my latest release Forged in Trust, out September 4th from Dreamspinner. This novel is the fourth book in the Bay Area Professionals series. The characters that populate this universe are doctors and dentists who participate in the BDSM scene. Although Forged in Trust can be read as a standalone, characters from the first three novels will weave in and out of the story in a secondary capacity. The excerpt I’m sharing is one with Scott and Robin who were the main characters in the novel Impacted. There’s an opportunity to win a free e-copy of the novel or a gift certificate by entering contact information in Rafflecopter. Enjoy!
Dr. Ethan Marshall is the young medical student on call the night Tessa Duran murders her husband for abusing her twelve-year-old-son, Rino. Ethan stays in the cubicle while the rape kit is performed and is surprised when the boy resorts to prayers instead of tears.
Despite compelling evidence, Tessa is sent to jail for life. To avoid placing Rino in foster care, their parish priest agrees to raise him. Ethan is touched by Rino’s plight and visits whenever possible, but the connection is broken when the priest and young boy leave the area months later.
Raised by the Dominicans in California, Rino considers joining the order until a romance blossoms with a fellow student. After much soul-searching, he turns his back on everything familiar, and chooses his orientation over his perceived vocation. Upon graduating dental hygiene school, Rino takes a job at the office of Scott Gregory and Robin Kennedy.
Seventeen years have passed since that horrible night in the emergency room. Forty-three-year-old Ethan is now a Dominant in search of a full-time submissive. Twenty-nine-year-old Rino is adrift, longing for someone or something to help him find the serenity he’s lost along the way. As they rekindle their friendship, they realize they might be perfect for each other.
ROBIN WALKED home because he’d sent Scott away in the car, and although he could have called for a cab, he decided the eight-block walk would do him good. It would give him a chance to leave work behind and get into his Dominant mindset so he could be on top of his game that night. He wanted to give Scott the scene he deserved and hoped that it would expel whatever poison was upsetting his beautiful partner’s equilibrium.
They’d had a long and blissful relationship after their fateful and dramatic start. He knew life was fluid, and ups and downs were a part of living. He and Scott had been luckier than many couples, considering they’d been virtual strangers when they’d first met. The bizarre set of circumstances that had started out as an impromptu hookup in a parking lot to a full-time BDSM relationship would have been hard to believe if he hadn’t been present throughout the entire journey. The odds that they’d even come this far had been pretty slim, but it only proved they were a perfect match. He was certain this current crisis, if you could call it that, would be easily circumvented with a little patience and a lot of loving.
He unlocked their front door, turned off the burglar alarm, and yelled, “I’m home,” while hanging his jacket in the hall closet. Nikes were toed off and parked on the shoe rack they kept by the front door before he punched in the codes again to reset the alarm. He climbed the stairs slowly, listening for anything untoward, and when all he heard was the sound of his own breathing, he relaxed. He pushed open the door of their playroom and was pleased to see Scott kneeling on the lush carpet they’d installed for moments such as this. He was naked with his head bowed and his hands clasped behind his back. Robin’s pulse accelerated in anticipation of what was to come.
Scott’s body was pretty perfect for a guy on the cusp of his forty-first birthday. There were no unsightly bulges, thanks to a life of moderation, and the rounded muscles on his chest were rock hard and sexy as hell. The nipple Robin had pierced during an intense scene they’d shared shortly after they’d met had a different jeweled bar than the cheap ring he’d used at that time, but it wasn’t sagging with age and remained as perky as it had been the night he’d driven the needle through the tender skin. Just thinking about that raunchy scene made his cock swell up and peek past the waistband of his boxers.
Robin began to strip, leaving his clothes in a trail. He circled Scott and noted with satisfaction that the new butt plug was firmly in place as he’d requested. He stood a few inches away, grabbed his erect cock, and rubbed it gently across Scott’s face. Scott lifted his chin, and Robin could see the silvery track of precum he’d left in a jagged line. Scott stuck out his tongue, licking what he could reach, but Robin purposely stepped back to get out of range.
Scott looked up. “Please?”
“What do you need, babe?”
“You in my mouth.”
“Only if you promise not to come.”
Mickie B. Ashling is the alter-ego of a multifaceted woman raised by a single mother who preferred reading over other forms of entertainment. She found a kindred spirit in her oldest child and encouraged her with a steady supply of dog-eared paperbacks. Romance was the preferred genre, and historical romances topped her favorites list.
By the time Mickie discovered her own talent for writing, real life had intruded, and the business of earning a living and raising four sons took priority. With the advent of e-publishing and the inevitable emptying nest, dreams were resurrected, and the storyteller was reborn.
She stumbled into the world of men who love men in 2002 and continues to draw inspiration from their ongoing struggle to find equality and happiness in this oftentimes skewed and intolerant world. Her award-winning novels have been called “gut wrenching, daring, and thought provoking.” She admits to being an angst queen and making her men work damn hard for their happy endings.
Mickie loves to travel and has lived in the Philippines, Spain, and the Middle East but currently resides in a suburb outside Chicago.
