Pinkerton Agent Stiles Long is sent to the Circle W Ranch to uncover who is killing the ranch’s cattle. In order to discover the truth about the goings on at the ranch, Stiles has to prove to the ranchers he’s more than a good-looking city slicker.

Savage Beare, the head ranch foreman, is far from happy that Stiles is there to check things out. He has secrets of his own.

Stiles finds Savage incredibly good-looking, but cold and aloof.

He’s also a suspect. One of many.

It’s a small world.

Most of you know I got my start writing Twilight M/M fan fiction. But what you may not know is that from that, I discovered a whole world of authors who wrote these amazing stories about men and love and life and angst and mystery and well, it became my main source of reading. Charlie Cochrane, the amazing author of the Cambridge Fellows Mysteries and lots of other wonderful stories became one of my favorite.

I was such a fan girl I had to write to Ms. Cochrane and we found we had many things in common besides our love of beautiful men in love. During this time, several of my fan fiction stories had become very popular and I wanted to try something new. So I decided to take characters that I loved from two totally different worlds and sort of mix them up. One of those worlds belonged to Charlie. I wrote to her and asked her permission to write my own mystery. It became one of my most beloved fan fiction stories.

Later on, after Charlie and I had become closer she let me know that original the characters in her Cambridge Fellows Mysteries, Jonty and Orlando, actually started out in a fan fiction of hers. To say I was blown away was putting it lightly. I couldn’t believe it. We laughed endlessly that what had started as a fan fiction had become published and back to a fan fiction again. We agreed it was a very small world.

In my experience since I have become a published author, the community of authors is a wonderful community of people who care and support one another. It’s a wonderful place to be.

About the author

CJ BATY lives in southwest Ohio with her very patient husband and two encouraging children. Her heart however, lives in the mountains of Tennessee where she hopes to retire some day. The mountains have always provided her with inspiration and a soothing balm to the stresses of everyday life.

The dream of writing her own stories started in high school but was left on the back burner of life until her son introduced her to Fan Fiction and encouraged her to give it a try. She found that her passion for telling a story was still there and writing them down to share with others was much more thrilling than she had ever expected.

One thing she has learned from life and she is often heard to say is, “You are never too old to follow your dream!”
