Everyone has a story.
Dealing with HIV, high school bullies, and new found feelings.
That is Jeremy’s Story.
Jeremy is a teenager with a terrible past.
He has to live with its consequences for the rest of his life.
There is hope.
He’s found a new family, a new life, and a new school.
Will he be able to find friends? Love?
Or will he let those who would judge him prevail?
After Math was lunch-period. The three boys got a table in a corner of the cafeteria. Jeremy decided that he wanted to supplement his lunch with some fries and got in line at the food counter. He felt a tap on his shoulder. When he turned, he was a bit stunned.
A rather well-put-together young woman from his class had poked him to get his attention. She introduced herself. Jeremy was flattered because Amanda seemed like the kind of girl that every guy would want to know.
Why do I feel like I’m not one of those guys?
That brought on thoughts with which Jeremy wasn’t at all comfortable. They weren’t about Amanda, or any other girl in Jeremy’s class. These thoughts were all about Jeffrey.
And those beautiful eyes.
Jeremy came out of his trance. “Hello.”
Amanda huffed and got straight to the point. “Jeremy. You seem like a nice guy and all, so I need to warn you. Jeffrey is gay. Everybody knows it. You probably don’t, or you wouldn’t be hanging out with him, I’m sure. Arnold is a dweeb. We only tolerate them because of their dads. Although, Jeffrey was a catch before he turned gay.”
Jeremy was stunned. You aren’t very nice, are you?
Jeremy guessed that she meant well.
“You look like the kind of guy who could hang out with my kind of people.”
Jeremy half-expected her to ask him if he’d like to sit with her and her friends. She didn’t. “I can get you a table so you can sit with people more to your liking. Not at my table—you don’t deserve that yet.”
“Look. I’m very flattered that you thought of me, but I’ll take my chances with Arnold and Jeffrey. I’m sure Jeffrey won’t molest me in front of the entire school. I’ll make sure we’re chaperoned.”
Amanda just shrugged and left Jeremy to pay for his fries in peace.
